I was in a vehicle accident at 38 weeks pregnant that ended in me having to be induced as a result of being hit by a man who was simply just not paying attention. My induction lead to health issues that had not been present my entire pregnancy. I had an out of state health policy as well as an in state policy. My vehicle insurance was also an out of state policy. My health insurances AND vehicle insurance were both claiming they were NOT responsible for the entirety of my hospital stay for my delivery OR the many, labs, echoes, 3 day heart monitoring, ER visits and ultimately being re-admitted back into the hospital due to heart failure and severe fluid overload from my induction. When my son was 4 days old being released from the hospital again due to high bilirubin levels I was being put back into the hospital due to events I had no control over. A month into trying to figure out how to be a mother and be present with my son I was informed I had well over $25,000 worth of medical bills that were being rejected by all my insurance providers. I was 21, 8 hours away from any of my family and battling heart issues caused by this whole event.
