On Thursday, September 23rd, a 2019 Chevrolet van and a GMC Sierra truck were in a head-on collision on U.S 167 in Batesville. The incident led to the death of Tammy J Gardner, from Hardy, and one minor passenger, whose identity has not been released.
The Arkansas State Police reports that Gardner, driving a 2019 Chevrolet van with two minor passengers, was headed south on U.S. 167 in the early morning hours. The 2016 GMC Sierra, driven by Cody L. Conboy, 20, of Greenbriar, was headed northbound. Conboy drove into the southbound lanes of traffic and struck the left front of Gardner’s van with the left front of his truck.
Unfortunately, Gardner and one minor passenger from STARS Academy in Batesville were both killed on impact. Conboy and the other minor passenger in the van were injured and were transported to area hospitals.
STARS Academy reported that the driver was not at fault for the accident, but a Batesville family lost their child in this accident and the driver’s family is also in mourning. While the police reports are unsure if this is a case of distracted driving or another cause, the truth is that accidents can affect the lives of families in the blink of an eye.
